Townhouse V
Renovation of a townhouse in the historic centre of Mechelen.
The goal of this project was to preserve the house’s authentic elements including floors, mouldings and doors while adding subtle yet decisive contemporary elements to bring the house into the 21st century. The kitchen has a slightly deconstructed feel with the stainless steel and black stained wood veneer fitting the period house surprisingly well. Upstairs, a mirror-clad block of dressing cabinets is added to the previous owner’s atelier, reflecting the paint-stained floors. New pieces of furniture were carefully selected to complement the owner’s vintage design pieces.
