Renovation and extension of a listed 1880’s neoclassical building in the centre of Herenthout, transformed into a mixed-use entity comprising a dental practice, an apartment and a polyvalent space for seminars and events.
To accommodate the dental practice, a contemporary extension is carefully inserted into the former courtyard. The historic façade is preserved, restored and introduced on the inside of the extension as a defining element of its interior.
The new volume is connected to the original building through existing openings and a generous U-shaped skylight, ensuring an abundancy of natural light.
The main entrance to the practice is relocated to the rear, allowing for improved accessibility. A clear spatial organisation and circulation redefine the ground floor, enabling its new function while reinforcing the dialogue between historic and contemporary elements.
